Racing to save lives...The Hendrick Marrow Program.

Established in 1997, the Hendrick Marrow Program was founded by Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Motorsports after he was diagnosed with leukemia. The Hendrick Marrow Program works with Be The Match Foundation® to support the work of the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP). It raises money to add more potential marrow donors to the NMDP's Be The Match Registry®, increasing the chances that more patients find their match. It also helps patients pay for some uninsured transplant costs, which are often a barrier to treatment. Hendrick himself was not a marrow recipient but wanted to be able to help people who did need marrow transplants.

The Hendrick Marrow Program has:

  • Raised more than $8 million

  • Added more than 90,000 members to the Be The Match Registry

  • Eased the financial burden of more than 4,000 patients with grants from the Hendrick Family Fund for Patient Assistance

Our employee Fiesta!

Frank making his burrito
Fred Turner (on right)
Every quarter Hendrick Honda of Charleston has an employee luncheon.  This month we had a nice Mexican Fiesta with food from Moe's.  We celebrate all the accomplishment we have made over the quarter, birthdays, employee anniversaries, and the welcoming of new employees.  We also had to say goodbye to a long time employee, Mr Fred Turner, our shuttle bus driver, has decided to retire. Best of luck in your retirement Fred!!!  We also like money!!!  With the luncheons comes out the wheel.  Everyone loves to get a turn to spin the wheel for a chance of cash and prizes.  Robert Platt, from our parts department, who has been with us for 11 years was unable to attend so Rick "Spinmaster" Feauve, a service advisor, spun the wheel for him and landed him a the top cash prize.  Robert "Thank You" for your 11 years of excellent service. As you can see here at Hendrick Honda of Charleston we are family.

Rick with Robert's winnings!

Is turning your A/C up making your gas mileage go down?!???

The temperatures are so high this summer as well as  the gas prices!  Ever wonder if  running your AC in your car makes your gas mileage drop?   Hendrick Honda of Charleston would like to share some helpful tips on saving you gas!!

Lower the fan setting!
The simple answer would be that it depends on the driver! Gas mileage in vehicles directly relates to the amount of work an engine has to do. The more electronics that are being driven by an engine's revolutions and power, the more your fuel economy decreases. Air conditioning can produce a significant load on an engine, which directly affects fuel economy. So operating the air conditioner on "Max" can reduce the MPG when compared to not using it. To help your engine not have to work so hard to initially cool your car off on the hotter days you can briefly open your windows to flush out warm air. Letting your car idle to warm-up doesn't help your fuel economy, it actually uses MORE fuel.

The amount of time and distance traveled of each trip should always be taken into consideration. Consider not having the temperature set on “Freezing” or putting the fan on a lower speed to minimize the impact of air conditioning on fuel economy. Studies have found that a car running with AC is more fuel efficient than driving with the windows down. When we drive with open windows, the air that comes blowing into the car creates a kind of drag that puts extra pressure on the engine and forces it to work harder. Hence, it eats up fuel and the performance of your car decreases.
Let those windows up!
